The Senate unanimously approved 109 votes changes to Article IV of the Constitution to establish in the Magna Carta the dignified death and palliative care of the terminally ill, guaranteeing access to medicines for them.
The amendment establishes that “everyone has the right to the protection of their health in conditions of dignity (…) and access to health services, including multidisciplinary palliative care for diseases in terminal situations”.
The president of the Senate, Martí Batres, referred to the consensus for this Constitutional Reform.
To incorporate multidisciplinary palliative care for diseases in terminal situations, limiting or threatening to life, as well as the use of controlled medications; it refers to the Chamber of Deputies for the purposes of Deputies for the purposes of Constitutional Article 35, ”said Batres Guadarrama.
The PRD senator, Miguel Ángel Mancera, pointed out that what was approved is not “euthanasia”, but to guarantee that there is no suffering for the terminally ill.
Subsequently, the Senate Plenary Session went into recess, as there was no agreement so far between parliamentary groups to approve the Domino Extinction Law and the Republican Austerity Law.
