CANCELED DUE TO COVID 19

The World Federation of Right to Die Societies (WFRTDS) granted us the venue in Mexico City to organize the biannual congress of 2020, from October 27 to 31.

During 2019 we have been working hard to carry out the Congress 2020, which will be attended by 60 federation delegates of different countries, and it is expected to have the assistance of more than 300 national and international people.

The theatrical play, La Lechuga (The Lettuce) was represented in the ESRU Foundation facilities, in front of more than 80 people including specialists in the field, doctors, lawyers, deputies, senators and supporters of civil organizations; as well as specialized press. In the end there was a wine of honor where there was a debate and talk about the theme of the play on assisted death.

This and other similar works will contribute to promoting national dialogue on the right to a dignified death. This, we hope, will affect the awareness of those who have in their hands the possibility of realizing the desire of a great majority of Mexicans to be able to opt for a dignified death.

The donation program for DMD was launched.

We keep receiving registrations of persons interested in being part of DMD Friends, through the poll boxes placed in the Tamalli stores.

With the purpose of continue promoting the ‘Right to die with dignity’ subject, DMD, invited to a film-debate of the movie The Farewell Party (2014), a German-Israeli tragicomedy which addresses the euthanasia issue in an impudent way.

In addition to benefitting from the presence of persons of many disciplines, an enriching exchange of ideas—both for DMD and for the attendees—was carried out.

DMD convened the first edition of the 2018 contest ‘FOR THE RIGHT TO A DIGNIFIED DEATH: PALLIATIVE CARE, DECISIONS ON THE END OF LIFE, PHYSICIAN-ASSISTED DEATH (EUTHANASIA, PHYSICIAN-ASSISTED SUICIDE)’, mainly focused in inviting doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, thanatologists, terminal and/or chronic patients, caregivers, family members of patients and, in general, any Mexican citizen interested or experienced in the subject to send essays or unpublished stories.

It was printed and its distribution began to all DMD Friends and Board.

With the participation of experts and scholars from Colombia, Spain, United States, the Netherlands and Mexico, the First International Colloquium For the Right to a Dignified Death was held on Tuesday, October 31 at the Marquis Reforma Hotel in Mexico City.

José Luis Palma, General Director of Investigación en Salud y Demografía, S.C. (Research in Health and Demography), describes the work done for DMD. A.C. in order to know the opinion of Mexicans regarding the assistance to die and euthanasia.
